The lucky three tickets were won a day after each other and the lucky run began in Whangarei on Tuesday 16 August. The winner and her brother were in the Onerahi Bookshop and Lotto and decided to pool their change together to buy a few Instant Kiwi tickets.
When they got home they scratched the Bee Lucky ticket and revealed a top prize of $20,000. The winner says she and her brother are sharing the prize, $10,000 each and she plans to pay off some debts and treat herself to a new car.
On Wednesday 17 August, a winner who bought their ticket in Whitcoulls in Taupo also won $20,000. The out of town winner says she has been ‘buzzing’ since she won the prize and was watching her bank account via internet banking when the $20,000 amount came up!
The following day in New World, New Plymouth, a local woman did her weekly grocery shop and took her Lotto ticket and bought a $2 Instant Kiwi with her change. She scratched the Bee Lucky ticket when she got home and was so shocked when she saw the $20,000 prize she threw it down and walked away from it.
After making a cup of tea to settle her nerves, she walked back into the living room and looked at it again.
“I shouted through to my husband to come and look at the ticket,” says the winner.
“He looked at it and said, ‘Oh you’ve won $20,’ and I just laughed and told him to go and get his glasses because I’d won a bit more than $20,” she laughs.
The New Plymouth winners plan to do some home renovations and save the rest for their retirement.
There is one top prize remaining on the Bee Lucky ticket so you better get your ticket quick as the prizes are flying out of this one!
