The student was with her boyfriend at Blagdon Four Square in New Plymouth to buy one $3 Cloud Nine Crossword Instant Kiwi ticket. When she got to the counter, she decided to buy two tickets as it was her birthday and she was feeling pretty good.
“I scratched the first ticket and won $5 which I was pretty pleased about,” says the winner.
“I scratched the letters on the second ticket randomly and after scratching only 8 letters, I saw I had won $40,000,” she says.
“I’m over the moon with this win – I’m just turning 19 and already have a student loan of around $10,000 so this win means I can finish my studying debt free,” she says.
The winner has been advised by her mum to be selfish with the money and to set herself up for the future.
“I plan on paying off all my student loans and then keeping some money for travelling overseas in the future,” says the winner.
“My boyfriend has been saving up for a new car so I reckon I’ll throw some cash his way to help him out too,” she says.
