The family, who wish to remain anonymous, were having a quiet week awaiting the arrival of a new baby. The father took his son out to buy some morning tea at the bakery and thought he’d buy a couple of Instant Kiwi tickets at the dairy next door.
Sitting in the car with his son, he decided to scratch the $10 ticket and revealed a matching number with a $250,000 prize.
“I couldn’t believe I was seeing the correct number,” says the winner.
“My son is just a toddler so he had no idea what was going on but he was laughing at my excitement and the way I was talking,” he laughs.
“At home I showed the ticket to my wife and she almost went into labour,” he says.
The family’s new baby was born a couple of days after their win, so it’s been a ‘grand’ week for the family.
Their win will go towards a bigger car for their expanding family and will help them pay off some loans and bills.
The winning ticket was sold at HillPark Superette in Manurewa. There is one top prize remaining on the $10 Two Hundred and Fifty Grand ticket.
