How to play Lotto

Lotto is New Zealand's favourite lottery game, offering you the chance to become a millionaire every week. Just choose your favourite numbers, or take a Lucky Dip, and if your numbers come up on Saturday night you're a winner!

Each Saturday night at 8pm on TV2, 6 numbers and 1 bonus number are drawn from a possible 40 numbers. The aim is to match as many numbers as you can to those drawn from the Lotto ball machine. Just match a minimum of 3 numbers, plus the bonus ball and you are a winner. Match all 6 main balls and you win First Division.

How To Play
To play Lotto just pick your own numbers by filling out a self select coupon or choose an easy Dip. Play Lotto, Powerball & Strike Online

Choose your own numbers
All you have to do is mark any 6 numbers from 1-40. Each line costs 60 cents and you must play a minimum of 4 lines, which costs $2.40.

Easy Dips
Alternatively, you can ask your Lotto retailer for an easy Dip with numbers randomly selected by the computer.

Multidraw
You can play your own number selections or an easy Dip over 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 consecutive draws by buying a multidraw ticket.

Lotto Combo
Lotto Combo is another great way to play. Instead of choosing 6 numbers, you can choose 8, 9 or 10 numbers. A Lotto Combo ticket gives you every possible combination of those numbers. You can also play Powerball with Combo simply by selecting a number from 1 to 10.

Many people like to play Lotto Combo as a syndicate - check out our downloadable guide to syndicates for more information.

How Does the Draw Work
Every Saturday night on TV2 at 8pm, 6 Lotto balls and 1 bonus ball are drawn from the Lotto ball machine.

These are the Lotto winning numbers. The first 4 numbers are the Lotto Strike numbers. A serial number will also be drawn, which is the Winning Wheel number.

After the Lotto numbers have been drawn, the Powerball is drawn from the Powerball machine. If you have won any of the Lotto divisions, and have that week's Powerball number on the same line, you're a Powerball winner.

All games and processes are tested and scrutineered by the Department of Internal Affairs and Audit NZ.
